Evonik to Acquire Swiss Plant Extract Producer Botanica

Specialty chemicals company Evonik has inked a purchase agreement to acquire the Swiss plant extract producer Botanica.

WHO: Founded by the Wälti family in 1998, Botanica is a European leader in sustainable botanical extracts for the personal care industry with a presence in three European countries: Switzerland, France, and Germany. Botanica employs 43 people and has a portfolio of over 1,000 different plants available for extraction.

Evonik is one of the world leaders in specialty chemicals active in over 100 countries around the world. In fiscal 2020, the enterprise with more than 33,000 employees generated sales of €12.2 billion and an operating profit (adjusted EBITDA) of €1.91 billion.

WHY: By leveraging the synergies, Evonik plans to enhance its product portfolio, open new markets, accelerate growth, and create significant value.

DETAILS:

  • Botanica will be integrated into the care solutions business line within Evonik's life sciences division nutrition and care.
  • Recent Evonik acquisitions include the cosmetic delivery company Infinitec Activos (2021), the biotech company innoHealth (2020), Wilshire Technologies (2020), and ALKION Biopharma (2016).
